Many people struggle with sinusitis, also known as a sinus infection, which causes inflammation or swelling of the tissues that line the sinuses. When your sinuses become inflamed it can reduce your ability to breathe properly as the sinuses will become blocked by fluid and then germs can result in infection. The job of the sinuses is to create mucus to keep your nose moist to prevent dust, allergens, or pollutants from entering your body through your nasal cavity.  When the sinuses get blocked and filled with fluid, germs may grow, resulting in an infection. Sinusitis can be caused by a number of different conditions, including:

  • A common cold
  • Allergic rhinitis – the swelling of the lining of the nose
  • Nasal polyps – small growths in the lining of the nose
  • A deviated septum – when the thin wall between nasal cavities shifts and becomes unbalanced

There are two types of sinusitis – acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis. Acute sinusitis occurs on a somewhat one time basis, where chronic sinusitis plagues an individual coming back continually causing breathing issues. Regardless of whether you are dealing with acute or chronic sinusitis, you could need to see an ears, nose, and throat doctor near you in Meridian about your sinusitis to discuss effective treatment options.

Effective Treatment For Sinusitis in Meridian, ID

Blocked sinus passages can cause a number of problems for patients, from nasal pain and headaches to difficulty breathing. Thankfully, there is a fairly new treatment available for people that suffer with chronic sinusitis that can provide relief. Balloon sinus dilation, or “smart sinus,” is an endoscopic, catheter-based procedure used by ENTs for treating chronic sinusitis or rhinosinusitis, sinus inflammation, and extreme nose blockages. Balloon sinuplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that involves having a tiny balloon inserted into your nasal passages until it reaches the blockage. The ENT specialist then fills the balloon with air which helps to expand, restructure, open, and widen the blocked sinus passages while preserving the lining of the sinuses. A saline solution is then applied or sprayed into the sinuses to remove any mucus or pus. The balloon then gets deflated, and the catheter is withdrawn. Your sinuses are fully open, and you can breathe normally. If you are looking for an ENT specialist who does balloon sinus dilation near Meridian, contact our office today online or call (208) 314-4044 to book an appointment.

Eustachian Tube Balloon Dilation Near Meridian

The Eustachian tube is a small passageway that connects your throat to your middle ear. When you sneeze, swallow, or yawn this tube will open, helping to regulate the air pressure and fluid in your head. People who experience frequent pressure changes such as pilots or flight attendants, scuba divers, and even snorkelers, can be susceptible to blocked Eustachian tubes, although any person can end up with blocked tubes. This blockage is a condition called Eustachian tube dysfunction. When you are suffering from Eustachian tube dysfunction, sounds may be muffled, and your ear may feel full, or you could experience ear pain. There is a helpful treatment for blocked Eustachian tubes known as Eustachian tube dilation, or balloon Eustachian tuboplasty. An ENT specialist will insert a small balloon on the end of a catheter into the nasal passage and guide it to the Eustachian tube. Once inside the tube, they will inflate the balloon for two minutes, then fully deflate the balloon and remove it and the catheter from the Eustachian tube and nose. This procedure will open up the passage from the ears to the throat, giving you relief. If you are looking for Eustachian tube dilation in Meridian, we invite you to contact our nearby ENT office to book your appointment.
